House Appropriations Subcommittee Would Provide FCC Less Money Than Requested for 2027

The House Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee advanced a 2027 funding bill that would provide the Federal Communications Commission with less money than the agency asked for. The bill provides $390.2 million for the FCC, which is $26 million, or 6.2%, less than the FY26 enacted level. The legislation would also:

• Prohibit funds from being used to update minimum service standards for fixed or mobile broadband Internet access without evaluating impact on affordability and consumer choice.
• Prohibit funds from being used to enforce the “Prevention and Elimination of Digital Discrimination” rule. 

The full House Appropriations Committee is set to take up the bill on April 21 or 22 if lawmakers need more time after marking up another funding bill. The legislation was cleared by the subcommittee along party lines, with Republicans in favor and Democrats opposed.
