Workers are using ChatGPT to do tasks typically associated with specialists, according to new OpenAI research. It adds to growing evidence that AI is changing the division of labor within companies. If the trend persists, it could reshape hiring and job design—long before those changes show up in official labor market statistics. "The boundaries between jobs are likely already becoming more flexible due to AI," said OpenAI chief economist Ronnie Chatterji. Roughly 44 percent of workers' occupation-specific ChatGPT requests involved tasks typically associated with another profession, after stripping out generic tasks like writing emails and scheduling meetings.
