Rep Blake Moore Introduces Bill to Ban Artificial Intelligence Chatbots in Children's Toys

Congressman Blake Moore (R-UT) introduced the AI Children's Toy Safety Act to ban the manufacturing, importation, sale, or distribution of any children’s toy or childcare article that incorporates an artificial intelligence chatbot in the United States. The insertion of AI chatbots into children’s toys, many of which are made by companies that explicitly state that their platform should not be used by young children, poses serious data privacy challenges, locks children into addictive and unpredictable engagement patterns with toys, and risks exposing them to explicit content through chatbots trained on data generated by adults.
