Broadband Labels

As of October 2024, the Federal Communications Commission requires all internet companies to give you a clear label showing key details about your plan—like real speeds, data limits, monthly costs, and extra fees. These are sometimes referred to as "Broadband Nutrition Labels." Consumer Reports wanted to better understand Americans’ interaction with and perceptions of these broadband labels. Just three in ten broadband users (30 percent) who had shopped around since these rules went into effect recalled actually seeing the labels. Roughly a quarter (23 percent) said they were helpful, while just 7 percent said they were not. The rest either did not see the labels (29 percent) or were unsure if they had (41 percent).
