AT&T sues to block T-Mobile's switching app

AT&T has demanded a federal court order to halt T-Mobile's new "Easy Switch" tool, claiming that it uses AI bots to unlawfully access and scrape customer data. The operator filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction in a US District court in Texas on November 30 "to stop T-Mobile from taking customer data from secure, password-protected websites on AT&T's computer systems without AT&T's consent." T-Mobile recently launched the Easy Switch tool in its T-Life customer service app, which uses AI to recommend T-Mobile plans based on data about a user's current AT&T or Verizon subscriptions and aims to speed the switching process to take just 15 minutes, rather than hours. AT&T alleges the T-Life app switching tool illegally accesses and harvests "more than 100 categories of private information" for each customer, according to its complaint filed with the court. Users are required to log into their AT&T accounts via T-Life which enables the "scraping tool" to collect confidential data disguised as the AT&T customer, it explained.
