Amazon Leo files plan to deploy 5,105 D2D satellites
Amazon Leo revealed more details about a proposed, global direct-to-device constellation that, it said, will comprise 5,105 low-Earth orbit satellites and complement the D2D satellites it will obtain via its acquisition of Globalstar. As outlined in an application filed by Kuiper Systems LLC with the Federal Communications Commission, the Amazon Leo D2D system will tap into mobile-satellite service spectrum and also tap into various mobile service bands to provide "ubiquitous global coverage." Per the application, the system will be based on D2D-optimized satellites with service links in the 1.6-2.4GHz band, supporting feeder links, telemetry, tracking, and command links in the Ka-band and V-band. Amazon Leo said it will use additional, available L-band and S-band frequencies to provide service links outside the US.
