On September 4, states must submit their final proposals, selecting Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment grant winners, to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration for approval. Early signs suggest those awards will favor satellite providers and serve fewer locations than expected. As a refresher, the Trump administration's NTIA revised the rules for the BEAD program in early June.

On August 5, the Federal Communications Commission voted to kick off its annual review of the pace and cadence of broadband deployment.

The MIT Media Lab announced Jessica Rosenworcel as its new Executive Director starting mid-September. Rosenworcel was most recently Chairwoman of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). She is widely recognized for her leadership in shaping the digital future—championing broadband equity, safeguarding communications networks, and promoting responsible approaches to artificial intelligence and space infrastructure.
