Gov. Tony Evers, together with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, announced the award of $1.7 million in grant funding to improve access to and affordability of essential telecommunication services in Wisconsin.

Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI), together with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC), announced the latest major milestone in the state’s efforts to expand high-speed internet statewide under a federal program designed to expand access to high-speed internet across the country. On December 2, the federal government approved Wisconsin’s final proposal, which will unlock over $1 billion in federal investments secured under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed by President Joe Biden.

On Sept. 3, 2025, the PSC submitted the state’s Broadband Equity Access and Deployment Program Final Proposal to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration for approval.

I write today to underscore the importance of the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program to Wisconsin. Our state has already spent tremendous time and effort to achieve the shared goals of the BEAD Program. I urge NTIA not to delay our states’ efforts at this final, critical stage, but to use the program review to create efficiencies that will accelerate broadband deployment to unserved Wisconsin residents.

Gov Tony Evers (D-WI), together with Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairperson Summer Strand, announced that the PSC awarded more than $27.8 million in funding from the Digital Connectivity and Navigators Program to fund 11 projects throughout Wisconsin that will improve internet connectivity by providing access to devices, technology, and digital navigators. Through the 11 projects awarded funding under the Digital Connectivity and Navigators Program, an estimated 52,409 households will receive a loaned device and 33,682 households will have access to free Wi-Fi.

The Wisconsin Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access released its fourth annual report. In 2024, the Task Force continued to emphasize its goals established in the 2023 report, which are that:

The 30 projects awarded funding will expand high-speed internet access to approximately 16,000 residential and business locations in the state.
