Building Digital Equity in West Philly: New 5G Tower Installed at 3.0 University Place
PCs for People joined community leaders, neighbors, and partners to celebrate a major step forward in closing the digital divide—the installation of a new 5G antenna tower at 3.0 University Place. This project is part of a $2.9 million federal grant to bring affordable, high-speed internet to more households across West Philadelphia.
The digital divide never went away
Despite progress during the COVID-19 pandemic, access to technology is still out of reach for many individuals and families. The digital divide continues to affect communities nationwide, limiting access to opportunities in education, employment, healthcare, and everyday life. In 2020, when schools and workplaces shifted online, the urgent need for computers and affordable internet access became impossible to ignore.
