The Maine Connectivity Authority (MCA) is leading a statewide planning process to assess cellular connectivity across Maine. Through the Cellular & Wireless Action Plan, communities throughout the state are working together to ensure that local input shapes the future of mobile service. Many areas across the State experience frustrating gaps in coverage and reliability due to Maine’s remote terrain and the high cost of expanding wireless networks to meet the growing needs of Maine communities.

After three years of planning, analysis and collaboration with the federal government, Maine Connectivity Authority  is proud to announce that Maine’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Final Proposal has been approved by the National Telecomm

The Maine Connectivity Authority released the draft Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program Final Proposal on August 22. The public comment period ran through August 29, 2025. The plan includes $48 million in funding to six internet service providers to cover over 23,000 locations. If approved, 85 percent of locations will be served by fiber, 14 percent will be served by low-Earth orbit satellite, and 1 percent of locations will be served by other technology. 

There is a new tool for helping people in Maine who struggle to get online to find places near them that offer free wifi, computer classes, low-cost computers, one-on-one tech help, and more. Tech Help for ME compiles a variety of critical resources in one place, making it easier for people in Maine to find what they need at a time when digital access is increasingly important. The resource hub, developed by the Maine Connectivity Authority, is designed specifically for people who face added hurdles in getting online.
