Now is the time to act on net neutrality

[Commentary] Federal Communication Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler has just given Americans what might be their last chance to preserve the concept of network neutrality, or treating all data traffic on the Internet the same. The proposals approved by the commission may not stop network operators from throttling back on bandwidth allotted for digital entertainment from Netflix, YouTube and other Web video providers unless they pay higher fees. Whether the new rules could survive an inevitable court challenge from a large cable or phone company is even less certain. Still, all of that makes the public comment period even more crucial.
