Megan Smith, the former Googler who's now the Obama Administration's chief technology officer, has only been on the job for a month. But she's already wading into some of the thorniest tech policy issues facing the country -- including the debate over diversity in Silicon Valley.

She says the diversity problem is ripe for disruption. "None of us created these problems -- general discrimination and unconscious bias -- we didn't create them, but as they come to our consciousness, we have to fix them," Smith said. "The industry is at that moment where we're starting to wake up." "We culturally decided, as the personal computer came in, that it was for the boys," Smith added.
