United for Digital Access: The Hope and Community Driving the Digital Equity Act Month of Action

On May 8, 2025, the largest investment to expand affordable broadband, digital skills training, and technical support in U.S. history experienced a major disruption when federal support for the Digital Equity Act was terminated. Overnight, the $2.75 billion bipartisan Act designed to strengthen families, communities, and our economy was disolved. This left state agencies and local grantees scrambling without anticipated funding, and millions of people without the immediate tools and skills to fully participate in our modern world. For organizations like Everyone On working directly on the ground to equip communities with devices and digital skills training, this was a challenging development for the movement we have spent years building alongside our partners. Yet, exactly one year later, the digital inclusion movement responded with remarkable unity by launching the Digital Equity Act Month of Action on May 8th, 2026. Led by a powerful coalition including National Digital Inclusion Alliance, Public Knowledge, Hispanic Federation, National Urban League, and Hispanic Technology & Telecommunications Partnership (HTTP), this initiative activated people nationwide to call for the restoration of resources that bridge digital gaps. Everyone On and our community made sure our voices were heard, taking to social media to share resources and raise awareness about what is at risk for local communities and our country’s future.
