High-speed 4G mobile services are set to become widespread across the UK by next June after telecoms operators agreed to stop a cycle of threatened law suits that have stalled development for more than four years. Maria Miller, the culture secretary, and Ofcom held what have been described as “peace talks” with the industry on Oct 2, in which the government agreed to accelerate the release of 4G radio spectrum by six months in return for operators dropping their legal challenge against the process. The move will pave the way for Everything Everywhere to launch the UK’s first 4G services within weeks.
