Ro Khanna offers upgrade in Congress for Silicon Valley
[Commentary] It is almost inconceivable that a veteran legislator like Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA) would be unable to lock up the support of the biggest players in the industry that defines his district. It's simply unacceptable that a truly engaged leader would not immediately try to assess what went wrong.
The word among tech executives who are supporting Ro Khanna is that incumbent Rep Honda generally has been supportive of their positions. They just want more. They want -- and this district deserves -- a stronger voice in Washington. Khanna, a 37-year-old patent lawyer and former trade representative for President Obama, has positioned himself as ready to fill that void. Our endorsement of Ro Khanna is not so much a repudiation of Rep Honda as a recognition of the opportunity for an upgrade for a congressional district defined by innovation, resourcefulness and a commitment to meritocracy. Khanna will help promote those values in a US Capitol that desperately needs them.
