“This is not an option any longer. Maybe it was 30 or 40 years ago when it first began, but today it’s part of our lives.” That was Pennsylvania State Rep. and House Communications and Technology Committee Majority Chair Joe Ciresi (D-Montgomery), describing the deep entanglement internet access has in our everyday lives at an informational hearing at the Indiana County (PA) Welcome Center, where several figures, from local leaders to state policy experts to business representatives, gave testimony on the current condition of broadband, high-speed internet within rural regions of the state and possible solutions to bring internet costs down and expand its reach.
