India to Halve Telecoms License Duration to 10-Years

India's Telecoms Minister, Kapil Sibal, says that telecoms licenses are to be subject to renewal every 10 years instead of the current 20-year renewal timeframe. He was speaking at the publication of a review of the Ministry's first 100 days after he took over from the former disgraced Minister, A Raja. "The telecom companies under the (proposed) NTP-2011 will have to file an application 30 months prior to the renewal of telecom licences and it (the licence) will be renewed for 10 years unlike 20 years as of now," Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said.
