How DigitalC is closing Cleveland's connectivity gaps
DigitalC got its start roughly a decade ago as an organization dedicated to digital literacy and skills training. Since then, DigitalC has started deploying its fixed wireless access network—Canopy—throughout the community, which currently advertises 100/100 Mbit/s service at $18/month. The city of Cleveland inked a $20 million contract with DigitalC in September 2023, with funds awarded from the American Rescue Plan. That grant was further matched with $10 million from the state of Ohio, $20 million from the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and a $3 million earmark. In return, DigitalC would build a network to 99.9% of the city's residential properties; connect 23,500 homes to 100/100 Mbit/s at $18/month; and digitally train 50,000 unique residents, over the course of four years. According to CEO Joshua Edmonds, DigitalC is progressing well: Canopy has added nearly 4,500 households since January 2024, including 1,148 new households in Q1 of 2025.
