Groups are calling on the Senate Rules Committee to launch an investigation into whether a closed-door meeting of the Senate Judiciary tech task force violated the chamber’s procedures for public notice. The working group, led by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), met in the Judiciary hearing room for an off-the-record session with privacy officers from Snap, Match, Salesforce, and Mozilla. “Open meetings, public notice, and hearing records are central to the integrity of the United States Senate,” the Electronic Privacy Information Center, Center for Digital Democracy and Consumer Federation of America wrote to the committee. A Blackburn spokesperson said the group "will continue to invite stakeholders" to participate in future sessions, which will remain behind closed doors. The next meeting is slated to focus on competition issues in the tech sector.
