Commissioner Trusty's Senate Commerce Committee Oversight Hearing Statement

Federal Communications Commissioner Olivia Trusty released her statement from the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee's FCC Oversight Hearing on December 17. "It has been nearly six months since I was sworn in as a Commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission," she said. "In that time, I have had the privilege of working on policies to expand access to high-speed connectivity, enhance the resilience of the Nation’s communications networks, and restore U.S. leadership in next-generation communications technologies." Trusty listed the three priorities of her work: universal connectivity, network resilience, and U.S. leadership. She also commented on the Universal Service Fund, saying, "Ensuring that every American has access to communications services has been the FCC’s core mission since its founding. Following my confirmation, the Supreme Court affirmed the constitutionality of the Universal Service Fund. I commend the bipartisan, bicameral congressional USF Working Group for taking the initiative to identify reforms to ensure the program’s sustainability and continued support for the operation and maintenance of communications networks in rural and remote areas."
