Charter CEO has appetite for more cable mergers and acquisitions
Charter Communications still has its hands full with the pending Cox Communications merger, but CEO Chris Winfrey said he would be game for more cable industry consolidation if the right scenarios present themselves. "We like cable as an investment. We think it's a great business," Winfrey said on Charter's Q1 2026 earnings call when asked to assess the potential for more industry mergers and acquisitions in today's regulatory environment. "We'd like to acquire more cable assets if it can be done at an appropriate price [and] conditions." He stressed that his comments are not directed toward any specific company or cable asset. Comcast executives were asked a similar question on its Q1 call—they said getting the company back on a path to growth is Plan A, but they also did not shut the door on M&A.
