California Receives NTIA Approval for BEAD Final Proposal

On the afternoon of July 17, 2026, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration approved California's Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment Final Proposal. This milestone represents months of work by the California Public Utilities Commission and our federal partners since the submission of the Final Proposal in December 2025. The outcome of this careful work ensures the Benefit of the Bargain goals were met by delivering the greatest value for California's $1.86 billion broadband investment through a competitive, technology-neutral process that prioritizes reliable, affordable service to unserved and underserved communities. The CPUC thanks our preliminary subgrantees for their patience and collaboration throughout the selection and negotiation process. Their willingness to work with us through multiple rounds of refinement was integral to reaching this point. A resolution outlining the revisions made to the Final Proposal since its original submission on December 19, 2025, will be published for public comment and may be considered by the Commission as soon as the September 17, 2026, voting meeting.
