WANTED: cybersecurity experts willing to work for the federal government for less pay and fewer benefits than offered by private companies like Google. That sums up the federal government’s problem in trying to attract and retain a talented workforce to fight cybercrime. Budget limitations have hamstrung the government’s ability to compete with the private sector, which can offer cyber researchers more pay and more opportunities for advancement. And competition is particularly fierce in the U.S., where there is a shortage of students graduating with science, tech, engineering and math degrees.
