988 Georouting Solution Highlighted at Mental Health Clinic Visit
Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, and Congressman Tony Cárdenas (D-CA) visited Sycamores Pacoima Community Based Services to learn about the Centers’ collaboration with the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and highlighted how georouting can improve the ability for people in crisis to receive the local care they need. The visit with mental health providers showcased how this crisis outreach center helps their community find local mental health resources, which the nationwide implementation of georouting aims to make more accessible for whoever calls the Lifeline for support. Tomorrow the FCC, which established 988 as the three-digit dialing code for the Lifeline in 2020, will vote on final rules to codify georouting.
