Rep Matsui and Colleagues Slam Revised Guidance for BEAD Program

Rep Doris Matsui (D-CA-07) led a group of 22 lawmakers in a letter to Department of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, expressing deep concerns regarding the recent restructuring of the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program. The lawmakers assert that, with the BEAD Restructuring Policy Notice, Secretary Lutnick has mischaracterized the program for political purposes and disregarded congressional intent.

Congressman Castor Reintroduces Kids PRIVACY Act

Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) reintroduced the Protecting the Information of our Vulnerable Adolescents, Children, and Youth Act, or the Kids (PRIVACY) Act, which would update the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act with safeguards to keep children and teenagers safe online and hold Big Tech companies who surveil and target children accountable. The bill includes strong provisions to build on COPPA's strengths and expand privacy protections for children and teenagers as well as directives to operators to make the best interests of children and teenagers a primary design consideration.

Rep Castor Introduces the 21st Century FTC Act

Rep Kathy Castor (D-FL) introduced the 21st Century FTC Act, legislation that would give the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Administrative Procedure Act rulemaking authority and first offense civil penalty authority. “For too long, the FTC has been hamstrung in its ability to promulgate effective rules of the road for consumers and penalize companies that harm our friends and neighbors," stated Castor.
