Is the FCC Asking the Right Questions About Broadband Deployment?

On October 23, the Federal Communications Commission released a Notice of Inquiry (NOI), launching its annual review to determine if broadband is reaching all Americans in a timely fashion.  Finding in the negative, the FCC must take immediate action to accelerate broadband deployment by removing barriers to infrastructure investment and by promoting competition in the telecommunications market. Over the next seven weeks, the FCC will collect public input to help guide its analysis.

Could the 2020 Census Help Bridge the Digital Divide?

The 2020 US Census will be the nation’s first high-tech count, with residents encouraged to primarily respond online. While this has the potential to foster a more efficient Census, advocates and officials say many hard-to-count populations are not comfortable using computers. FCC Takes Steps to Enforce Quality Standards for Rural Broadband

The Federal Communications Commission approved performance testing procedures for carriers receiving Connect America Fund support to deploy fixed broadband networks to unserved Americans living in rural areas, helping to ensure that rural Americans have access to the same high-quality networks as Americans in urban areas. The action also ensures that carriers remain accountable to consumers, taxpayers, and the FCC, and are delivering the network performance they have committed to provide.
