Marshall County officials, the Illinois Office of Broadband, and Surf Internet gathered at Lake Wildwood near Varna (IL) to celebrate ongoing fiber-optic construction funded through a combination of state and private investment. The event underscored how cooperation between county officials and Surf advanced the Connect Illinois grant project in this largely rural area. Delays had mounted early on as Surf navigated county permitting requirements that require utilities to obtain individual easements or consent forms from every property owner along the construction route.

Surf Internet announced that construction will soon begin on a new fiber-optic internet project in the Village of Fowlerville (MI). Fully funded by Surf, the $1.2 million investment will bring high-speed fiber service to approximately 960 locations throughout the village. The Fowlerville project is Surf’s latest step in expanding internet access across Livingston County and complements a broader $26 million infrastructure effort funded in part by Michigan’s Realizing Opportunity with Broadband Infrastructure Networks Grant.

Surf Internet is kicking off construction of a new fiber-optic network that will bring high-speed internet to 145 addresses across the Village of Troy Grove (IL)––including apartment units, municipal buildings, businesses, and dozens of single-family homes. Construction is expected to be completed later in the summer of 2025.

Surf Internet has been selected to provide high-speed internet connectivity to the South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC), one of Indiana’s largest school districts serving over 15,000 students. This initiative will connect 33 district sites, including schools and administrative buildings, to a dedicated high-speed fiber network. Each site will receive a 10 Gbps connection, with Surf supplying 20 Gbps of dedicated internet service districtwide.

Surf Internet and the Newton County (IN) Economic Development Commission (EDC) are paving the way for nearly all of the county’s residents to be connected to high-speed, fiber-optic internet by the end of 2024.
