Remarks by Executive Vice-President Virkkunen, Commissioner Dombrovskis and Commissioner McGrath on the digital simplification package

The European Commission is putting forward a package of measures to simplify the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation. The package includes changes to core elements of the GDPR, including a reduction in cookie banners and pop-ups. The package also includes changes to the 2024 AI Act. About the changes, Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, said, "But we are also clear that simplification does not mean softening our safeguards. We stand firmly behind our high standards for privacy, fairness and security."
