Online video services such as Hulu are failing to protect kids from explicit content, according to a new report from the watchdog Parents Television Council.

The PTC gave Hulu a grade of "D" on protecting children from harmful content, the highest grade out of four services evaluated. Hulu features television shows and content from NBC Universal, Fox and Disney. The other services evaluated by the PTC were Comcast's Fancast, AOL's Slashcontrol and online video streaming from AT&T. Of the 602 videos evaluated during the a three-week period, 46 percent were unrated and available to all users. The sites also failed to notify users when shows contained sex, violence or explicit language. "Our report clearly shows that these corporate entertainment behemoths, which invest millions of dollars promoting their online video distribution outlets, are failing to protect kids on the Web," said PTC President Tim Winter. "The content ratings and parental control devices they tout as a solution to indecent material on television are not being applied to similarly-indecent material on their websites."
