More on CNBC's strict guest policy.

In May 2012, Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski was booked with CNBC as well as one of the rival networks. When CNBC learned about this second booking, a network representative told an FCC official that if Genachowski appeared on the rival network he could not appear on CNBC, said a source familiar with the booking. In other words, CNBC told the federal regulator of its own industry that he was not allowed to appear on another television network. And the chutzpah paid off: Chairman Genachowski decided to cancel his booking with the rival network, the source said, and gave his sole interview to CNBC.
