AT&T fired an employee who inappropriately gained access to customer information this year, possibly including Social Security and driver’s license numbers. AT&T also sent affected customers a letter with an apology. In the letter, AT&T said the employee inappropriately gained access to some customer information in August. It also said any unauthorized charges made to customer accounts would be reversed, and affected customers would be eligible for a free year of credit monitoring services. The roughly 1,600 affected customers will find out if access was made to their accounts only if they are contacted by AT&T. The company declined to give the employee’s specific role at the company.
