Knight Foundation

Thursday, June 18, 2020 - 10:00pm to 11:30pm

Join Knight Foundation and the Esserman family to celebrate the first winners of this annual prize for accountability reporting in South Florida, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how their groundbreaking stories came to be.

The event will feature conversations with:

  • Washington Post Executive Editor Marty Baron, being honored for excellence in journalism;
  • Winners Julie K. Brown and Emily. Michot of The Miami Herald, on how their groundbreaking series "Perversion of Justice" on sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein came to be.
  • The runners-up for the prize from the Sun Sentinel, for their series "Teenage Time Bombs: A Generation in Danger," on Florida students who have fallen through the cracks and may pose dangers to schools; and
  • Journalists receiving an honorable mention from WLRN, Univision Miami and the Herald.

The prize, created by Ron and Charlene Esserman and family in partnership with Knight Foundation, honors South Florida's best accountability reporting.

Register now for the free event, that will be streamed on Knight Foundation's Facebook page, and at kf.org/essermanknightprize
