Digital Literacies for a Healthy Democracy

The House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee are hosting a panel event discussing 'Digital Literacies for a Healthy Democracy'. The event is led by Dr Elinor Carmi, parliamentary academic fellow with the DCMS Committee and postdoctoral research associate at Liverpool University.

The event will bring together international experts to share their insights around digital literacy in different contexts:

  • Professor Payal Arora, Professor at Erasmus University, Co-Founder of FemLab.Co and Founder and Director of Catalyst Lab
  • Dr Marielza Oliveira, Director at UNESCO
  • Professor Colin Rhinesmith, Associate Professor and Director of the Community Informatics Lab, Simmons University
  • Professor Marie Gillespie, Professor of Sociology at the Open University

The panel will also consider the Online Safety Bill, which is expected to be published in draft form for pre-legislative scrutiny this year. The panel will begin with questions prepared by Dr Carmi, after which there will be an opportunity for them to take questions from the audience.
