23rd Annual IP3 Awards

An event to recognize the outstanding leaders and innovators who have made significant contributions in the three areas of IP: Intellectual Property, Information Policy, and Internet Protocol. The awards help champion the advocates working diligently on behalf of the public interest to help everyone connect and communicate.

Internet Protocol Award: Adrianne Furniss

Adrianne Furniss is the Chair of the Board of Directors and Trustee of the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society. During her decade-long tenure as Executive Director, Furniss focused the organization on advancing broadband policies to ensure that robust, affordable broadband service delivers new opportunities and equity to communities across the nation. Through collaboration with policymakers, researchers, and practitioners, her work continues to champion a “broadband for all” agenda spanning health care, education, and civic participation.

Intellectual Property Award: Alan Inouye

Alan S. Inouye is an acclaimed writer and adviser on public policy and advocacy through his consulting firm, The Policy Connection. Until 2025, Alan served as the head of public policy and advocacy for the American Library Association. Notably, he was a study director at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine for The Digital Dilemma: Intellectual Property in the Information Age—the nation’s first comprehensive study on digital copyright.

Information Policy Award:

• Sayash Kapoor is a computer science Ph.D. candidate at Princeton University and an incoming assistant professor at the UC Berkeley School of Information. He is a co-author of AI Snake Oil—named one of Nature’s 10 best books of 2024—and was named to TIME’s inaugural list of the 100 most influential people in AI. Over 78,000 enthusiasts and policymakers worldwide read his tech and policy newsletter.
• Professor Arvind Narayanan is a professor of computer science at Princeton University and the director of the Center for Information Technology Policy. A co-author of AI Snake Oil, his groundbreaking research was among the first to show how machine learning reflects cultural stereotypes. Like Kapoor, he was named to TIME’s inaugural list of the 100 most influential people in AI and is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).

President’s Award: Commissioner Anna Gomez

This year, we are proud to present the President’s Award to FCC Commissioner Anna M. Gomez for her steadfast commitment to ensuring the law honors and serves the public. Bringing over 30 years of public and private sector experience in communications law, Commissioner Gomez has held pivotal roles—including Deputy Administrator at the NTIA, where she oversaw the successful transition to digital television and spearheaded broadband networks for first responders, as well as serving as Counsel to the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee.
