The Broadband Data Task Force announces that the seventh Broadband Data Collection filing window for submitting broadband availability and other data as of June 30, 2025, will open on July 1, 2025.

The Federal Communications Commission's Wireline Competition Bureau, in consultation with the Office of the Managing Director (OMD), announces the amount of unused funds for the Rural Health Care (RHC) Program that have been carried forward for funding year 2025. The FCC’s rules for the RHC Program establish a process to carry forward unused funds from past funding years for use in future funding years. The Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) projects that, as of May 31, 2025, $129.30 million in unused funds is available for use in future funding years beginning in funding year

Olivia Trusty was nominated to serve as a Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission by President Donald J. Trump. She was confirmed by the United States Senate in June 2025. Prior to joining the Commission, Commissioner Trusty served as a Professional Staff Member on the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services under the leadership of Sen Roger Wicker (R-MS). She previously served as a Policy Director on the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and a Legislative Assistant in the Office of Sen Wicker.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration seeks approval under the Paperwork Reduction Act to add 61 questions to the November 2025 edition of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey. This collection of questions is known as the NTIA Internet Use Survey and is also referred to as the CPS Computer and Internet Use Supplement.

On February 28, 2025, the Washington State Broadband Office conducted the process to document enforceable commitments and existing broadband coverage via alternative technologies for the established Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment project areas across the state. In the BEAD Restructuring Policy Notice, defaulted federal awards will be returned to eligibility for BEAD funding, and availability information will be updated to v6 of the Federal Communications Commission Fabric.

On June 6, 2025, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration published the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program Restructuring Policy Notice. This Policy Notice outlined new requirements for states and territories to follow when implementing the BEAD programs. The requirements set forth in this document explicitly override all other guidance documents specifically related to the Virginia BEAD application process for deployment projects. The Federal Communications Commission's Office of Managing Director (OMD) announced that the proposed universal service contribution factor for the third quarter of 2025 will be 0.360 or 36 percent. Contributions to the federal universal service support mechanisms are determined using a quarterly contribution factor calculated by the FCC.

The Appalachian Regional Commission invites proposals from qualified consultants to assess the performance and outcomes of ARC’s broadband grants and better understand the grant implementation experiences of grantees. ARC’s investments in broadband are designed to address unmet needs and create connections to help Appalachian communities thrive.

This DRAFT Report and Order would eliminate the professional engineer certification requirement for the biannual Broadband Data Collection (BDC) filings and instead allow the biannual filings to be certified by a qualified engineer.  An engineer certifying BDC filings would be considered a qualified engineer if they meet minimum experience and educational requirements relevant to broadband network design.  The Report and Order also clarifies that a certifying engineer does not need to be a full-time employee of the company filing BDC data.
