Benton Welcomes Broadband Competition for Apartment and Office Buildings

On February 15, the Federal Communications Commission adopted rules to give consumers in locations like apartments and office buildings more transparency, competition and choice for broadband service. The following statement may be attributed to Benton Senior Counselor Andrew Jay Schwartzman:

“Today’s decision promises to offer more: more broadband choice to more Americans. I suspect that the scope of this problem has been underestimated. I do know, from personal experience, that it has been too easy to evade the current rules so that homeowners and tenants lost the benefits of competitive pricing and choice of internet providers. This order is a very good thing.”

The Benton Institute for Broadband & Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that all people in the U.S. have access to competitive, High-Performance Broadband regardless of where they live or who they are. We believe communication policy - rooted in the values of access, equity, and diversity - has the power to deliver new opportunities and strengthen communities.
