Today, Benton Institute for Broadband & Society Executive Director Dr. Revati Prasad welcomed Dr. Caroline Stratton to be Benton's new Research Director. Dr. Stratton will direct the Benton Institute's research efforts to support a broadband-for-all agenda to demonstrate the benefits of broadband adoption and the costs of disconnection for individuals and communities. 

“Caroline is a longstanding, critical thought partner, most recently on our Human Infrastructure of Broadband project," said Dr. Revati Prasad. "She is a generous collaborator and deeply committed to technology that serves the public interest. Most importantly, she brings to this work the rare combination of rigorous research, grounded in practice, and focused on community.”

Dr. Stratton holds a Ph.D. in Information Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a BS in Nuclear & Radiological Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She has conducted research about digital inequality and inclusion in previous roles at the National Digital Inclusion Alliance and at Florida State University. Her work on telecommunications, technology, and information policy topics has been published in Government Information Quarterly, New Media & Society, Journal of Urban Affairs, and other scholarly outlets. Her research is informed by her experience designing and delivering digital inclusion programs for the public in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Stratton said, “The U.S. has reached a critical juncture in our commitment to universal broadband access, adoption, and application. The Benton Institute for Broadband & Society is the ideal home for my work and systematic investigation of why and how we connect everyone and to evaluate public and private efforts around the country to do so.”
