Louisiana hits NEPA milestone for over 50k serviceable locations, advancing broadband progress across the state

By completing the National Environmental Policy Act review process for broadband projects covering over 50,000 serviceable locations, Louisiana has made significant progress in its effort to deliver high-speed, reliable internet access across the state. Louisiana is first in the nation to complete NEPA approvals for Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment projects, and internet service providers have reached yet another milestone in helping bring high-speed internet to unserved and underserved communities across the state.

FCC to Examine USAC

In its August meeting, the Federal Communications Commission adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking titled Maximizing Efficiencies in Universal Service Administration Company that looks at changing the rules governing USAC, the Universal Service Administration. USAC is a non-profit corporation that was formed by the FCC after passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which created the Universal Service Fund.

House Clears Bill to Avert an Election-Season Shutdown

The House overwhelmingly passed a stopgap bill to avert a government shutdown at the end of the month, sending it to President Trump’s desk and punting a spending fight until after the midterm elections. The legislation includes language temporarily blocking the White House budget office from carrying out a proposed rule that would allow the administration to cancel grants to recipients that do not conform to Trump’s political views and enable his team to steer significant funding to causes and organizations aligned with him.
