People Inc. CEO accuses Google of abusing its market power

People Inc. CEO Neil Vogel accused Google of abusing its market power by using the same crawler for both search and AI. While some publishers want to block crawlers to protect their content from getting swept up by AI models, search traffic remains a key metric for advertising and affiliate revenue. "We can't actually block Google, because Google uses the same crawler for search as they do for AI, which is like an incredible abuse of market power," Vogel said.

With broadband access lagging behind neighboring metro counties, older residents in particular are feeling the strain. Now, the Martindale Community Library is stepping in to help close that gap.

Reducing poverty among older adults

Approximately 6 percent of elderly adults have insufficient resources to meet their basic needs. While this rate is similar to other age groups, elderly poverty is particularly troubling because their financial lives are often intertwined with their health, and deterioration in either can create significant burdens for the social safety net and younger generations. This policy brief will outline the problem of poverty among older adults and why action is needed.

Oregon BEAD Update

Alyrica Networks, Blue Mountain, Columbia County, Comcast Cable, Consumers Power Inc., Douglas Services, E4 Connect, Farmer’s Mutual Telephone Company, Gilliam County, Hood River Electric & Internet Co-op, Northwest Fiber, Pioneer Connect, Siuslaw, Stimulus Technologies, Windwave Communications, and Starlink have all accepted Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program awards to build broadband networks in Oregon. However, Astound, Siuslaw Broadband, Q-Life, and Hunter have declined BEAD awards. These rejections affect 13,381 broadband-serviceable locations.
