The Federal Trade Commission is likely to approve the proposed $3.1 billion merger of Google and DoubleClick today or tomorrow. Separate from the merger review, the FTC is also likely to request public comments on privacy principles that all online ad companies would have to follow.

The Third Periodic Review of the Federal Communications Commission’s Rules and Policies Affecting the Conversion to Digital Television may be released as early as this week. Many broadcasters are awaiting the report so that they can have a final blueprint of the technical procedures -- tower-siting, power and coverage issues among them -- and complete the transition to digital TV by the congressionally mandated Feb. 17, 2009, date for the switch to digital.
