Copper-based solutions will provide the main answer to meeting Europe's superfast broadband targets over the next six-and-a-half years, according to Point Topic.

A new report from the broadband analyst predicts that by 2020, most of Europe will still be receiving its broadband via copper lines - despite the best efforts of campaigners who want to see fiber optic cables extended all the way to individual properties. Despite this, Point Topic claimed by that year, at least 90 per cent of homes across the EU will be able to access broadband with download speeds of 30Mbps or better if they wish to do so. The report, entitled VDSL in Europe's Future, states that copper-based services are the most efficient way to provide superfast connectivity across the continent, both from a financial and technical standpoint.
