Please join Grantmakers in Film + Electronic Media and the Media Democracy Fund for our second annual . This year's gathering will take place on June 9th and 10th at the offices of the Open Society Institute in New York City.

(Note: This is a funder-only event and space is limited.)

The 2010 Funder Conversation will build on last year's convening and continue a critical dialogue on how philanthropy can best harness its resources ─ financial, knowledge, and leadership ─ to meet the needs of democracy in our increasingly media-saturated world. (2009 notes and presentations can be found at http://gfem.org/node/577.)

Over the course of the two days, the format will emphasize peer-to-peer exchanges and conversation as we explore the current state and future of media and the role that philanthropy plays in strengthening it. Participants will be informed by leading practitioners and funders who will share their knowledge of media funding for content (including documentary films, journalism, audio, web sites, mobile content, installations and more), media policy (advocacy, education, government policy and access), and media infrastructure (innovative platforms, development, training, capacity building and support of small or large-scale information delivery and telecommunications systems).

The aim of these two days together is to provide a unique space for strategy development during what is undeniably a dynamic moment in history. Agenda and speaker list are currently in development. Our intent is for all attendees to share their knowledge, collectively address funding challenges and leave better able to navigate both the funding and media environments.

Registration: There is no fee to attend for GFEM and Media Democracy Fund members; there is a $50 fee for non-members. Space is limited to 50 participants so please reserve your spot today by registering online at http://mediagrantmaking2010.eventbrite.com.
