Virtual Event

The NTIA Office of Minority Broadband Initiatives (OMBI) plays an important role in the Internet For All initiative by promoting equitable high-speed Internet access and adoption at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), and in their surrounding anchor communities. OMBI’s guiding vision is to achieve digital equity for minority communities across the United States.

Join the OMBI team and guests from the NTIA Office of the Assistant Secretary and the National Skills Coalition to explore how HBCUs, TCUs, and MSIs are working to help students build in-demand skills and connect to long-term career pathways. This webinar will focus on two areas: Closing the Digital Skills Divide and an update on NTIA Workforce Initiatives.

Speaker: Amanda Bergson-Shilcock, Senior Fellow, National Skills Coalition (NSC)
New research demonstrates that employers are requiring advanced technology-related skills, across almost all industries and occupations. Ms. Bergson-Shilcock will share NSC’s newly-released data focused on the digital skills required across demographic factors such as educational level or years of experience with a special focus on HBCUs, HSIs, and other minority-serving institution student populations. She will also discuss how improved higher education and workforce development policies can be part of the solution in addressing the impact of historical and structurally racist policies.

Speaker: Lucy Moore, Special Policy Advisor, Office of the Assistant Secretary, NTIA
Ms. Moore will provide an update on NTIA Workforce Development Initiatives and highlight some Connecting Minority Communities (CMC) grantees who are utilizing their funding for workforce development and training programs that are leading to skilled jobs and long-term career pathways.
