Dr. Colin Rhinesmith

Senior Director of Research and Fellowships

Colin oversees Benton's research initiatives and invited fellows whose work is underwritten by the Marjorie & Charles Benton Opportunity Fund, established with generous donations made in honor of the Institute’s 40th anniversary. He is also Director of the Community Informatics Lab at the Benton Institute.

Colin is also affiliated with the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry, as a member of its Scholars Council, and he is Co-Editor-In-Chief of The Journal of Community Informatics.

Previously, Colin was an Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Science and Provost's Faculty Fellow for Scholarship and Research at Simmons University. He has been a Google Policy Fellow and an Adjunct Research Fellow with New America’s Open Technology Institute. He was also a Faculty Associate with the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Colin received his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
