Clearwire may slow WiMax build to cut funding gap

Clearwire may build its high-speed WiMax wireless network more slowly than originally planned if credit markets do not improve by early 2010, Chief Executive Benjamin Wolff said. Clearwire said in May it planned a network that reaches about 140 million people by the end of 2010 using WiMax, an emerging technology that promises to blanket entire cities with high-speed wireless Internet services.
AT&T to push wireless beyond mobile phones

AT&T is working on introducing wireless links in devices other than mobile phones. The biggest US mobile service will promote the inclusion of cellular links in everything from computers and digital cameras to car-navigation and entertainment systems.

Leap Wireless has asked the Federal Communications Commission to refuse permission for the Verizon Wireless' $28.1 billion plan to buy Alltel and become the No. 1 U.S. mobile service. Leap said risks include less competition and difficulties creating roaming agreements that allow customers of one carrier to use another's services when traveling outside their home network coverage area.

Virgin Mobile USA sees telecom consolidation

Putting computers, televisions or cell phones in the trash is increasingly frowned on, and states like Massachusetts ban discarding many electronics in garbage cans.
