On November 7, 1967 President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, establishing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The law announced "to the world that our Nation wants more than just material wealth; our Nation wants more than a "chicken in every pot." We in America have an appetite for excellence, too."

American Archive Pilot Project takes Next Step

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is seeking an initiative manager for the American Archive pilot project. The manager selected for this project will, working with CPB, administer grants to public television and radio stations for the collection, coding and digitization of existing content pertaining to the civil rights movement and World War II.

Corporation for Public Broadcasting Board Elects Chair, Vice-Chair

The board of directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) today elected Chris Boskin chair and Beth Courtney vice-chair of the board. Boskin, who has served as CPB's chair since last year, was unanimously reelected to a one-year term.

CPB taps Dr Susan Tave Zelman to head Education and Children's Content

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting named Dr. Susan Tave Zelman senior vice president for Education and Children's Content. Since 1999, Dr. Zelman has served as Ohio's Superintendent of Public Instruction.

CPB Adds Ten Radio Stations to its Community Service Grant Program

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced the addition of ten stations which qualify for funding in FY 2009 through the Community Service Grant program (CSG). Earlier this year, CPB released applications to the radio CSG program for FY 2009.

CPB Announces Second Round of Local Service Initiative Grants

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced the second round of recipients of the Local Service Initiative (LSI) grants. The LSI grants provide seed money to stations for the development of public media initiatives that strengthen a station's role in its community and increase the public's awareness of the value of its service to the community.
