At the 11th Annual Wall Street Project Economic Summit, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin headlined the session on minority ownership of telecommunications and media properties. The current state of ownership in this country is not at all representative of the people that make up America. This luncheon included FCC Commissioners as well as industry experts to discuss how to increase opportunities for minorities to own and control telecommunications and media properties. Chairman Martin's remarks focused on Commission actions to: 1) increase broadband adoption, 2) reign in cable television costs, 3) open apartment buildings to video delivery competition, 4) increase the number of low power radio stations, 5) decrease the cost of leasing cable channels, and 6) diversify broadcast outlet ownership.
