Representatives from the education, health care, library and public interest communities as well as the private sector will announce the formation of the Schools, Health and Libraries Broadband (SHLB) Coalition.

and others. Coalition members will discuss the importance of deploying high-capacity broadband networks to schools, health care providers and libraries as a means of providing next-generation broadband access to the community.

The Obama administration is currently deciding how to prioritize more than $7 billion in broadband stimulus funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which also requires the FCC to develop and report a National Broadband Plan to Congress by next February. The New America Foundation filed Comments at the FCC this week making the case for federal investment in fiber into every community -- with the top priority being high-capacity fiber connections for every public school, library and hospital nationwide.
