XM-SIRIUS AND FIVE ANGRY MEN

A look at the leanings of the five Federal Communications Commission members who will decide on the merger of XM and Sirius Satellite Radio. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and Commissioner Robert McDowell likely favor the deal while Commissioner Michael Copps opposes it. The swing votes appear to be Commissioners Jonathan Adelstein and Deborah Taylor Tate. Whether Adelstein comes down in favor of the deal will depend on what kinds of concessions he believes the companies should make. She has made comments before about the low level of representation of women and minorities in media, so the XM-Sirius concession to more minority programming is likely to please her.
