Chairman Thune Wants to Move on Redl’s NTIA Nomination

Coverage Type:

David Redl, the Trump administration’s nominee to lead the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration, has been stalled for months in the upper chamber. The Senate Commerce Committee originally wanted to give him a vote in June, but Sen Ted Cruz (R-TX) raised objections over Redl's statements on internet governance. “When we have our next nominations markup, which will be two weeks from now, we plan to have him on the agenda,” said Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John Thune (R-SD). “A lot of it depends on conversations with Senator Cruz and his staff.” Remember, one tentative date circulating is Sept. 27. It’s all crickets from Cruz's office and the Commerce Department.
